Matt Horn is one of the most decorated players in the history of the program as he racked up six academic honors alone in his
senior season. Horn earned the Walter Byers Post Graduate scholarship as well as the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship. He be-
came the school’s first ever Capital One Academic All-America First Team selection and was voted to the Lowe’s Senior Class Award
Second Team All-America.
In addition to his honors mentioned above, Horn also earned NSCAA Academic Team All-Region honors. He is a two-time Big
South All-Academic Team selection and a 2010 NSCAA University Men Scholar All-South Region Second Team selection. In addition
to his honors for soccer and academics, he’s a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society
and the Book and Key Honor Society. In the spring of 2011, Horn was awarded the Griffin-Guettler Award for Winthrop’s male athlete
with the highest GPA, the Ken Stanton award for going above and beyond the call of duty in leadership, the Big South Conference
Student-Athlete of the Year Award in 2010 and Winthrop’s Student Life Award for Student Service Project of the Year that involved
Samaritan’s Feet Initiative (award presented to Winthrop’s SAAC 2010).
