WINTHROP SOCCER
2012 SEASON (NCAA COLLEGE CUP)
Winthrop became just the second team in league
history to advance to the Round of 32 in the NCAA
College Cup. The Eagles were matched up against
Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, TX
and ended up stunning the Mustangs with a 3-1
victory in penalties. Once again, Enrique Miranda
rose to the occasion and made three saves to help
Winthrop advance.
Just like so many times during the season, Win-
throp scored a late goal to tie the match at 1-1 and
nearly won it in overtime when Marc Segarra hit
the post on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.
The Eagles were knocked out of the next round at
Louisville.
